[teen] Pretty Little Liars - Sara Shepard

As the second book to post here I'll write a bit about the book Pretty Little Liars where the tvseries of the same name is based on. I have been watching the series for a while now, my own guilty little pleasure, and I couldn't wait to see what was going on in the series. So I decided to start reading the books.
The series are pretty well done, very strong, but the books are better. Nothing unusual about that, though some events happen differently in the series than in the books, there was a bit of getting used to the change of events, but nothing major.

What am I reading? 26 Feb 2011

26 Feb
I didn’t finish any of the books I talked about last time but I did start on a couple of new ones.
Poison Sleep (Marla Mason, Book 2) by T. A. Pratt
Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
Flawless (Pretty Little Liars, Book 2) by Sara Shepard
[sample] Why me? By Sarah Burleton
[sample] Boys Don’t Cry by Malorie Blackman

Poison Sleep (Marla Mason, Book 2) by T. A. Pratt
I read the first book when it was put up as a free sample at Suduvu a couple of years ago. I later got my hand on this second book but never found the time to read it.
I have started reading it yesterday after I didn’t know what I wanted to read. The book is once again fast paced with lovely characters.
Marla is a kick-ass woman with foul-rag-and-bone-shop magic (as she describes it). Unlike most other sorcerers she never really specialized in one kind of magic which makes her a wicked combination of powers.
I’m not far into the book yet, only page 61, and it starts out great.
First a “reweaver” (someone who can rework reality, both physical and memories) escapes from a sorcerers mental institution and then she has to deal with a slow-assasin, someone who doesn’t just kill but will stalk the victim for a longer period of time making the victim really uneasy as they will not know when they are killed. And on top of it all she has to deal with a lovetaker, someone who perfected the skill of seduction. I’m very curious what her sexually over active sidekick will do when he meets this lovetalker but I can imagine some fun scenes coming up.
Overall I’m looking forward to reading this. The book can be found on Amazon(UK) and Amazon(US).
Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard
Finished this book in under a week. I will put a longer review up in a bit but for now I can only say WOW. I really liked it. Found on Amazon(UK) and Amazon(US).
Flawless (Pretty Little Liars, Book 2) by Sara Shepard
The second book starts out as interesting as the first one. Everything was always about Alison and still is, even years after she disappeared. I’m not that far into this one as I only finished the first book last night. I do like the way this second one starts out and the reviews for this second book are as promising as the first.
[sample] Why me? By Sarah Burleton
I downloaded a sample of this book from amazon and it grabbed me immediately. It starts out with why the writer chose to write the book and then how the narrator looks back on what happened to her the day the Challenger exploded. It is a solid question for a first chapter, people always ask “where were you when this or that happened” and I think it is a nice way to start the book.
For me it is quite shocking to read how a small girl simply accepts the fact her mom hates her. I found the writing to be quite descriptive and full of feeling. A lot of the time I felt wrong for the way the girl described herself or the way her brain worked. Inwardly she knows a lot of truths but outwardly she spins her world with lies. I feel quite sad and think I will buy and read the rest of the book later.
The full book can be found on Amazon (UK) and Amazon(US).
[sample] Boys Don’t Cry by Malorie Blackman
The title of this book caught me immediately, thinking that it might be the book to the old movie. But I soon discovered otherwise. It was about two boys, brothers in fact, in sticky situations but it has nothing to do with their gender.
Dante is waiting for his A level results to get into university but instead of the postman Melanie, his ex-girlfriend, is ringing the doorbell. With her she has a baby and a beige-pink piece of paper. The piece of paper shows that Melanie is the mom of the baby and as Dante is trying to process that bit of information she dumps the second bomb on him, he is the dad.
Adam, Dantes brother wakes up with a headache and as this is not the first time in weeks he had a headache the equivalent of a migraine his dad insists on taking him to the doctor. Well at least it wasn’t the hospital, which he dreads even more.
It starts out good and the writing is fact paced. There is some British slang in it but nothing major.
I really think I will buy this one later on too. This book can be found on Amazon(UK) and Amazon(US).
More and more books are lining up for me to read. There is more out there than I can experience but I’ll try anyway.
Happy reading!

Ebooks, Ereaders and Epublishing. Part 1

A revolution is going on, not many customers fully realize it yet but writers do. Ebooks and epublishing are growing. This changes the way we perceive writing, reading, books and how to sell them.
On different boards I've had discussions about ebooks, ereaders and epublishing, discussions that have been going stronger and stronger over the past couple of months. It is no longer a new thing, something some geeks thoughts of. Ebooks have established themselves in the market. People are scared, curious and uncertain about the whole thing and although I might not be the most knowledgeable about things I will share what I do know.

[gay] Bite - Sean Michael

I'm going to start with one of the best writers I have found in a long time.

Bite is a delicious story about werewolves and kinky sex. Sean wrote a strong story about hunks, kinks and danger.

Welcome to Kia's Reading!

Welcome to Kia's Reading!

I'll be putting up reviews of books I've read, hopefully at regular intervals, these can be full books, collections of short stories, old books, new books and sometimes only samples.

If I see interesting free books come by I will put those up too.

When there is interesting news or fun new addons for the Kindle I'll share it with all of you. And remember, you don't need a kindle to be able to read the ebooks from Amazon. Amazon allows you to download an application for you PC, iPhone and other devices so you can read ebooks you downloaded from their website no matter where you are.

Happy reading!
